Professional Semester 1 Practicum Experience
My PSI placement was in Schuler School, in Schuler, AB; about forty-five minutes outside of Medicine Hat. It was my first experience at a rural school, and it could not have been any better. I was placed in the grade 4-6 class and every student in there was awesome, I loved teaching them! The students, the staff, and the parents were all fantastic people. The school felt like a really big family because everybody knew everyone. I can only hope that my second and third practicum experiences will be as great as this one. I really enjoyed my time there, and will miss the school a lot.
My areas that I taught to the students were Grade 4-6 Language Arts, Grade 4-6 Gym, Grade 1-3 Gym, and a technology module for the Grade 1-3 as well. Below are some of the lesson plans and articles from my time in Schuler School.

Language Arts
This was my biggest contribution for my teaching at Schuler School. I taught L.A. from Tuesday - Friday, for an hour and a half everyday. Throughout this time, I taught the students the unit of sequencing, and how to plot events on a plot diagram. We did a novel study using the book The Incredibly Ordinary Danny Chandelier, we learned how to juggle, and we did small group reading activities. This biggest challenge I faced with L.A. was planning for different levels. I had to understand that I had grade four, five, and six in my class and I had to plan accordingly to be the most effective teacher I could be. As I move forward in my career, the ability to plan for multiple different ability levels will assist me in becoming a more well-rounded and diverse educator.

Physical Education (Div. 1 & Div. 2)
Before I had started physical education at Schuler School, I was tasked with teaching the basketball and floor hockey unit to the Division 2 class. Of course, these units were fun and it helped that I played basketball so I actually knew what I was talking about. The kids love gym and love to participate, and they all try their best no matter what! I really enjoyed teaching physical education for this practicum.
The Division 1 class was primarily dealing with games, mainly different variations of tag that I would play with them that they enjoyed. I tried to get as much feedback from the kids as possible to see what games they enjoy playing so I could possibly do them again later on down the road.

Division 1 Technology Module
This module did not require formal lesson plans as the students were working with iPads on 'games' that encouraged learning in mathematics, literacy, and science. Each week I was to find a new app (or two) to share with the students, they would play the game for the entire period and learn while playing. Most of the students were at a very low exposure level to technology, so it was a bit of a challenge, however, once they got the hang of a game they could fly through it! I was super pleased with the learning that happened in the class, and the students had fun the whole time they were learning.
Some of the Apps I used in this class were:
Todo Math: This app dealt with numerous different ways to learn a multitude of math skills in fun and colourful ways.
Artie's Magic Pencil: This game dealt with geometric shapes. The student had to solve problems on their adventure as they drew shapes with their fingers to solidify the motions to draw the shapes.
Grandpa's Workshop: This was another math game that required students to do simple counting and math in order to get to higher levels with a theme of tools and workshops.
At the Zoo with Grandma and Grandpa: This was a science/literacy app. It dealt with a zoo adventure that had them practice numerous different skills in different subject areas.

Reflections
Over the course of my five weeks at Schuler School, I was able to reflect weekly on how my week was going, and what was going on in my practicum. I have four total reflections (Week 2/3 were combined into one), and these are mostly reflections based on situations that I was posed with and questioning myself on how I could solve them. Through the use of these reflections I was able to implement new strategies into my practice and improve my overall practicum experience to be the best it could be.
